Ms. Chumki Datta has received the prestigious "Equal opportunity Awards - 2019" in the category of Individual entrepreneurs for her work with differently-abled. She has received the award from Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, and Ms. Shakuntala Gamlin, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Person with Disabilities (DEPwD), Govt. of India.
The Equal Opportunity Awards were instituted in 2014 and recognize organizations and individuals empowering Persons with Disabilities in their workspaces and lifestyles. This Award is organized by Nipman Foundation with Microsoft as a title partner, is recognized by UNESCO MGIEP and NITI Aayog, Govt. of India. The highlights of the event are telecasted on India Today TV and will be featured online on The Print.
She has received this award for her work in Mastermind and Vriddhi. "Vriddhi Training cum Production Centre" is a training cum Production Centre managed and owned by differently-abled people. It is established as a Self Help Group [SHG] having all its 25 members from the Persons with Disability (PwDs) community including the person with intellectual disability. In this way, this is a kind of unique initiative that employs only persons with disabilities for all its purposes. This invigorates them to be continuously marching in the direction of being economically independent and self-reliant. Generally seen by society as a sort of burden, these employees now refuse to see themselves the way society sees them.
