Vriddhi
Vriddhi is a training cum Production Centre managed and owned by differently-abled people. It is established as a Self Help Group [SHG] having all its 25 members from Persons with Disability (PwDs) community including the person with intellectual disability.
A. Soap Making: Producing 100% Natural & Chemical Free Handmade Soap
Currently, Vriddhi comprises of two parallel units - training, and production. There is a continuous training process for the PWDs for natural handmade herbal soaps, gift items, and aesthetic materials. The trained people, based on their interest, can be transferred to the production unit as an employee or can start their own home-made business.
B. Production of other Items - Pickle Making, Gift Items & Aesthetic Items
The interesting part of the story is that all its employees are persons with disabilities only and it’s only because of their contributions from the beginning to the end that culminates in the finalization of the products.
In this way, this is a kind of unique initiative that employs only persons with disabilities for all its purposes. This invigorates them to be continuously marching in the direction of being economically independent and self-reliant. Generally seen by society as a sort of burden, these employees now refuse to see themselves the way society sees them.
C. Product Marketing: Exhibition & Retail Shops
The production unit has established linkage with both market complexes and small-scale grocery shops to sell the products in and around the Bhubaneshwar city. Now due to the high production rate, Vriddhi wants to expand its network to other locations and establish a new linkage to expand the business.
Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India has published a short documentary on National Career Service for Differently-Abled, Bhubaneshwar, highlighting the work Ms. Chumki Datta at "Vriddhi training cum Production Centre" as innovative social entrepreneur.
